Former resident dies in Midland on Oct. 13

MIDLAND - Laura Word, 80 of Midland and formerly of Fort Davis, died Oct. 13, 2013. She was born March 14, 1933, in Mullin, the daughter of Lawrence and Carrie Rinehart. She attended schools in Fort Davis where she met and married Marlin Word. The two were married for 59 years and lived most of that time in Alpine where he was in charge of the Texas Department of Transportation and was the longtime chief of the Alpine Volunteer Fire Department. She was a member for many years at the First Baptist Church in Alpine and worked for many years at First National Bank in Alpine, retiring from the bank in 1983. She moved to Midland 13 years ago. She was preceded in death by her husband, brothers Walter and Leonard Rinehart, her parents and a sister, Connie Hailey. Survivors include daughters Christy and husband Herb Kneisley and Vicki Word, all of Midland; three grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; sisters Kathaleen and Bill Rogers of El Paso and Nell and John Simpson of Rathdrum, Ida.; and sister-in-law Clara Rinehart of San Angelo and formerly of Fort Davis. Services were Oct. 16 in Midland.
