Indians shock Eagles who were number 2 in the state rankings

Editor's Note: This is the sixth in a series on the 2003 Fort Davis Indians, who played in the state championship game, narrowly losing to Strawn in the final seconds. As this is the 10-year anniversary of that state finalist year, this series is dedicated to those players and their great season.
FORT DAVIS - It was the first time since the 1970s that the Fort Davis Indians set themselves up to own an outright district football championship and game against the Number Two team in Texas, the Sanderson Eagles. The final was 64-54 with Fort Davis getting eight touchdowns from John Liddell with tremendous blocking from Tim Salcido, Trini Granado, David Lara, Mitch Aufdengarten and Cody Stewart just to name some of the Indians who helped Liddell light it up on offense, scoring three rushing touchdowns, passing for two more for 226 total yards, running in a kickoff for a TD, caught 91 yards of passes for two more touchdowns. Oh, and he also had 17 tackles on defence.
