Switchin' Flies

By Barney Nelson.

The Boy Scouts have a great motto: be prepared. That's quick and easy to say but very hard to practice…and sometimes the consequences are dire. This past ice storm was a gentle reminder. Step one: pay attention. Growing up on a farm and then spending most of my adult life down some dirt road on some ranch, I sort of got in the habit of paying attention and being prepared. Although I've never owned a tv, I do listen to the weather on the radio almost religiously, even though they are often wrong. How do they know about global warming when they don't know what the weather will do tomorrow? Anyway, I knew there was at least a 50/50 chance that a big winter storm was coming.
