Memorial service Feb. 1 for Mary Ann Kokernot Lacy, 91 of Waco

WACO - Mary Ann"Koko" Kokernot Lacy died Jan. 12, 2014. A memorial service will be Feb. 1, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Waco. A reception and lunch will follow. She was born May 25, 1922, on the Kokernot 06 Ranch to Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Lee Kokernot Jr. She attended Alpine public schools, The Hockaday School in Dallas and Smith College in Northampton, Mass. In 1941 she returned to Texas and graduated from Baylor University in 1943 with a bachelor's degree in history. While at Hockaday, Mrs. Lacy met her future husband, Lawrence Christian Lacy, on a blind date. They married Sept. 18, 1943, at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco, Cal. They moved around while Mr. Lacy served in the Navy. They settled in Waco and started their family. Mrs. Lacy was an active member of First Baptist Church, and Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She spent most summers of her life living on the Kokernot 06 Ranch. While out in West Texas, she and her family attended Paisano Baptist Encampment and Bloys Campmeeting in the Davis Mountains. She was preceded in death by her parents; and Lawrence, her spouse of 67 years. She is survived by their four children, Elizabeth Winn and husband, Jim, Chris Lacy and wife Dawn of Fort Davis, Ann Brown and husband Cletus III, and Golda Brown and husband Stan; 10 grandchildren, Molly Winn Burns and husband Webb, Lacy Winn Sakellaris and husband George, James Winn, Kristin Lacy Cavness and husband Buddy of Alpine, Lance Lacy and wife Brandee formerly of Fort Davis, Cletus Brown IV, Edward Brown, Cooper Brown LaPoint and husband Mike, Jacob Brown and wife Milana, and Lauren Brown. She also is survived by nine great grandchildren, Hayden and Selden Burns, Angenie, Natalie and Emma Sakellaris, Madison and Mason Cavness and Christian and Katherine Lacy.
