Sol Thomas dies in Sierra Blanca

SIERRA BLANCA – Sol Olen Thomas, 72 died in Sierra Blanca April 2, 2014. A former Hudspeth County public official, he served as county attorney and on the commissioners court. He was born in Clovis, NM, May 26, 1941. He was a resident of Sierra Blanca for the last 24 years. He loved the words and the sentiment, "I love the free life; I love the fresh air and I long for the canter after the cattle." He was a rancher, lawyer and real estate appraiser. He committed the bulk of his life to ensuring that individuals from all walks of life were given fair and passionate representation in the legal system. Survivors include his wife Sandra Thomas of Sierra Blanca, sons Chase Thomas of Sierra Blanca and Pierce Thomas of Dallas; three daughters: Teri Odle and husband Bob and children Austin, Jett, Micah, and Elijah of Burleson; Sharla Wilson and husband Tracyand children Blake, Brett and Raegan, Stefani Rackley and husband Heath and children Mia, Savana and Ivy; a sister Ruthe Cochran of Albuquerque. A memorial service was April 4 at the Church of Faith in Sierra Blanca. The funeral arrangements were entrusted to Carrillo Funeral Home of Van Horn.
