Nina Alvarez

Edwina Campos Alvarez, known to friends and family as “Nina, died June 21, 2014. She was born in Marfa, lived the majority of her life in Odessa and retired in Fort Davis. She was a teacher and counselor with the Ector County Independent School District receiving her B.A. from the University of Texas Permian Basin and her Masters from Sul Ross State University. She is survived by her husband, Eriberto “Eddie” Hernandez Alvarez of Fort Davis, a daughter Norma Jean Alvarez of Odessa, son Robert Rene Alvarez of Fort Davis; sisters Janie Tapia of Odessa, Josie Ramos of Odessa, Anita Gonzales of San Antonio; brothers Mario Campos of Rosenberg and Joe Campos of Odessa; cousins Alice Rodriquez of Fort Davis, Gloria Garcia and Sabina Ontiveroz of Marfa; sister-in-law Aurora Campos of El Paso and close family friend Karen Smith of Odessa and numerous nieces and nephews. Rosary service was at Christ the King Catholic Church in Balmorhea June 24. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated at Christ the King June 25. Burial was at the Balmorhea Cemetery. Alpine Memorial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
