Hugh Howard

MARFA – Hugh Espy Howard died Aug. 19, 2014. He was born March 1, 1934, in El Paso to the late Gay Howard and Ruth Espy Howard. His parents were lifelong residents of the Marfa community. He was the grandson to the late George A. and Ella Howard who assisted in the establishment of Presidio County, and J.W. and Lola Espy who helped settle Jeff Davis County. Hugh Howard or better known as "Hughie" to his friends and family graduated from Marfa High School where he played football and basketball. He remained loving sports throughout his life, particularly the Marfa Shorthorns, Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs. He cherished the moments he was able to be with his family and watch a sporting event. He was a rancher and was part of Howard Mobil his entire life. He was a member of the First Christian Church, and also enjoyed attending church with his family at Grace Fellowship Worship in Alpine. Survivors include three sons and their wives, Espy and Esther Howard of Alpine, Noel and Deborah Howard of Ft. Meyers, Florida, Gregory and Andrea Howard of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; five grandchildren, Zackery, Clay, Nathan, Landon, Jacklyn and a great grandson William; one sister Suzanne Sullivan of Fort Davis; three nieces, Gayle, Zanna and Katherine, two nephews, Jim Sullivan and Jason Sullivan and many great nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of life and memorial service will be Aug. 28 at 10 am at his sister's ranch 18 miles north of Fort Davis off Hwy 17.
