Elementary, junior high Indians dominate UIL academic contests

The Dirks-Anderson Elementary and Fort Davis Junior High students dominated the academic University Interscholastic League meet last Friday in Balmorhea. The meet included about 300 students from Balmorhea, Terlingua, San Vicente, Dell City, Valentine, Sierra Blanca, Marfa and Fort Davis. Fort Davis elementary students won the team competition with 786 points, with the second place team, Marfa, scoring 315 points. The junior high Indians won the meet with 663 points, with the second place team, Balmorhea, scoring 294 points. There were 67 different events, from Kindergarten through 8th grades. Fort Davis scored points in 61 of those 67 events, carrying the team titles in 37 of those events.
