Austin lawyers propose building nuke waste dump site near Kent

KENT - If you liked the idea of Midland or El Paso coming in here and hauling out Davis Mountains water or a 42-inch pipeline full of natural gas headed for Mexico being dug through the neighborhood, you're going to love the latest attempt to screw up one of the last and most pristine places in Texas. More than 70,000 tons of high-level nuclear waste could soon be stored indefinitely in Culberson County, just north of Jeff Davis County near Kent. Austin-based AFCI Texas, LLC is proposing an above-ground storage site about 40 miles east of Van Horn and nine miles north of Kent.
