Scifres buried in Texas Panhandle Aug. 18

ALPINE – Shirley Darlene Brock Scifres of Alpine died Aug. 13, 2015, surrounded by her family. The mother of Dr. Jimmy Case of Alpine and a Sul Ross State University professor, she was born in Wetumka, Okla., on April 17, 1926, to A. C. Brock of Copan, Okla. and Cynthia Alice Tusing Brock of Caney, Kansas. She spent her youth in the Phillips 66 Camps in Borger, Fullerton Field, Hobbs, NM, Penwell and Sanford. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1944. She lived, worked, and raised her family in Amarillo and Edmond, Okla,where she worked for Leeway Motor Freight for 30 years. She moved to Alpine in 1984 and worked at Sul Ross State University in the Media Center in the Wildenthal Library. In 1996, she retired and moved to Sanford. In 2009, she returned to Alpine where she was a member of First Baptist Church and the Alpine Chapter of the Federated Women’s Clubs. She is survived by her son, Jimmy Case and daughter-in-law Beverly Six of Alpine; daughter Debbie Case of Weatherford, Okla. and her daughter and son-in-law Diana and Michael Auth of Austin. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Services were at First Baptist Church in, Sanford Aug. 18 with buried at Westlawn Cemetery in Borger. A memorial service will be in Alpine in early September.
