Fireworks display on Saturday; Jody Nix dance on Friday night

FORT DAVIS - The schedule will change a bit for the annual Fourth of July Celebration in Fort Davis next month. Due to some scheduling issues, the fireworks has been moved to Saturday night and the number one dance band in Texas - Jody Nix and the Texas Cowboys - will be here on Friday night, which is July 4.

Italian band to perform in Marfa

MARFA - With support from Puglia Sound and the City of Marfa, Marfa Live Arts presents Kalweit and the Spokes' - Mulch in America tour at Padre's Marfa June 27. Kalweit and the Spokes is based in Milan, Italy, and is comprised of Georgeanne Kalweit (vocals), Giovanni Calella (guitar), Mauro Sansone (drums) and Nicola Masciullo (guitar bass clarinet).

Auditions Monday for Missoula Children's Theatre

FORT DAVIS - An audition for the Missoula Children's Theatre production of RAPUNZELwill be June 16 at Dirks Anderson Elementary School Gymnasium in Fort Davis from 9 - 11 a.m. Those auditioning should arrive by 9 a.m., and plan to stay for the full two hours. Some of the cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the audition.

Fourth grader Faith Farrer

Fourth grader Faith Farrer, way up at the top, has earned 424 points reading over 2,700,000 words making history at Dirks-Anderson School. The fourth graders, encouraged by Teacher Rexann Leary and Evin Prude, have over 2,400 total Accelerated Reader points.

Steps Toward Health a success at Food Pantry

FORT DAVIS – The Food Pantry of Jeff Davis County’s “Steps Toward Health” community event May 17, was enjoyed by over 50 individuals, including school children and their families. The event offered free blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol testing, information about nutrition, cancer and diabetes prevention, and local opportunities for exercise and healthy lifestyle. Pantry board members supplied a cornucopia of healthy, delicious snacks with recipes.

Fort Davis 4-H Club participated in the “Don’t Mess With Texas Program” in April

The Fort Davis 4-H Club participated in the “Don’t Mess With Texas Program” in April by picking up trash for two miles along the highway between Fort Davis and Alpine. The Adopt-A-Highway stretch manned by the Fort Davis 4-H is almost a quarter century old now, having been started by the 4-H when Luke Dillard and Casey Adams were the officers who began the program.
