Fort Davis seventh

Fort Davis seventh grader Taylor   rley and her partner, SergioCervantes of Midland, who compete in team roping and are second in the West Texas region, will be in Gonzalez next week to compete for state championships in high school rodeo competition. Taylor, the heeler of the team, is the daughter of Roy Hurley of Fort Davis, the Jeff Davis County fire marshal.

graduated from Texas

Ryan Diaz of Andrews graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock May 16 with an engineering degree in wind energy. He is the son of Rudy Diaz of Andrews and formerly of Marfa where  e was the sportswriter for The Big Bend Sentinel, and Rosie Webster of Fort Davis. His grandparents are Elvira Webster and the late Eddie Webster of Fort Davis

The Fort Davis High School Photography group tried something new this year. They launched their first-ever crowd source funding project on Kickstarter. It was wildly successful!

Theatre celebrates 50th with Annie Get Tour Gun

The Theatre of the Big Bend’s 50th year will be celebrated with a bang, featuring performances of Irving Berlin’s beloved musical, “Annie Get Your Gun,” June 26 - July 19. The reprise of the 2006 production that set ToBB attendance records, will again be in the San Antonio Livestock Exposition (SALE) Rodeo Arena at Sul Ross State University’s Turner Range Animal Science Center.

Garden party benefits Children's Theatre scheduled in June

The Fort Davis Children's Theater group will host a benefit garden party dinner May 8 to raise funds to bring the Missoula Children's Theatre to Fort Davis this summer. The dinner will start at 6 p.m. at Beth and Larry Francell's historic garden and home at 109 Buckeye Street in Fort Davis. Everyone is invited.

37th Texas Star Party starts Sunday for weeklong run here

Over 500 astronomers, astrophotographers and observers from all over the United States will be in Fort Davis this next week for the 37th Annual Texas Star Party, which runs from May 10 to 17 with headquarters at Prude Ranch. Guest speakers this year are: •Taft Armandroff , director of McDonald Observatory. Speaking on “New Developments with the McDonald Observatory and Giant Magellan Telescope”

Jazz quartet plays for free Friday

ALPINE - Four musicians, all with Sul Ross State University connections, come together this Friday, May 1, at 6 p.m.as Nova Camp, the area's newest jazz quartet. Carol Wallace, keyboards; Ron Steinmann, percussion; Steve Bennack, bass and Kendall Craig, vocals are well known in the Big Bend in many musical areas, but this is their first foray as a jazz quartet.

Sounds from Untitled Skies offered at Crowley Theatre Saturday at 8 pm

BIG BEND - Sahra Motalebi will present Sounds From Untitled Skies, a 40-minute piece for the stage at the Crowley Theater in Marfa April 25. "Sounds From Untitled Skies originally began with the idea of presenting contemplative portraits of places. Places that were illuminating the process of visiting them in and of themselves," Motalebi explains.
