Beth Francell is named Woman Of Distinction

MIDLAND – On March 19, the Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest at their annual luncheon in Midland honored Beth Francell as a 2015 Woman of Distinction. Eight other attendees from either Odessa or Midland were similarly honored.

New Trappings date, but same great batch of Western art

BIG BEND - New dates and new events highlight this year's Trappings of Texas Western Art and Cowboy Gear Exhibit and Sale at the Museum of the Big Bend on the Sul Ross State University campus. Works by over 70 noted Western artists will be featured at the 29th annual event, scheduled Thursday-Saturday, April 16-18.

One-act on stage today in Van Horn

FORT DAVIS - Actors and actresses have been busy preparing for the annual One Act Play district competition which will be next week when students in Fort Davis return from spring break. Scheduled in Van Horn, March 26, Fort Davis will compete against Vaentine, Dell City, Sierra Blanca and Balmorhea.

Alpine High School;

Grace Jahn, Alpine High School; Tierney Foster, Fort Davis High School; Timothy Roberts, Marathon High School; Marissa Garcia, Marfa High School; Gabriella Tarango, Valentine High School; and Roman Villanueva, Big Bend High School received the Good Citizen Award from the Paisano Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in recent ceremonies in Alpine.

Recuerdos in concert Friday night

ALPINE – Recuerdos, a newly formed guitar trio, will perform in concert as part of the Big Bend Chamber Music series at St. James Episcopal Church at 6 p.m. on March 6.  The trio is composed of three guitar teachers - Steven Bennack, whohas been part of the Sul Ross music faculty for 17 years; Victor Chong, a native of El Paso and Ciudad Juarez who earned an associate degree in music from El Paso Community College, currently teaches guitar and is working on his bachelor's and Master's degrees with Bennack and Justin Rodriguez, also from El Paso, who is pursuing an degree in music education with Bennack and plans to teach guitar professionally
