Bones, Taylor of Fort Davis to speak at opening of Russell Lee exhibition

BIG BEND - "Russell Lee Photographs," a traveling exhibition by the renowned documentary photographer, will open Tuesday, Feb. 17 at the Museum of the Big Bend on the Sul Ross State University Campus. "Russell Lee Photographs" draws from the archive Lee donated to the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History, Austin, just prior to his death in 1986. The exhibit offers a rare glimpse into the remarkable images Lee produced in 1935 and 1936 when he first took up a camera and highlights the vast body of important work that he produced from 1947-77. The exhibit will be on display in the Museum's Temporary Gallery through Sunday, March 29.

Fort Davis High School

Fort Davis High School debate students Tessa Schreiber, Makayla Chambers, Mae McIvor and Audra Miller competed this past  weekend in Round Rock and placed in the top four teams of the competition. The girls compete again, along with the third Fort Davis team of Courtney Stephens and Locke Ann McIvor on Feb. 13 at district competition, this year in Fort Davis

BIG BEND - There's still time to sign up for health insurance and avoid a penalty fee Big Bend Regional Medical Center can help If you're uninsured, there's still time to sign up for health insurance on the Health Insurance Marketplace and avoid the penalty. Under the Affordable Care Act, 2015 is the first year Americans must prove they had qualifying health insurance (or an approved exemption) for the previous year (when filing 2014 taxes), or face a tax penalty.

Summer plans for kids in the works

FORT DAVIS - Start making summer plans while you plan around children's summer activities. The Missoula Children's Theatre will be in Fort Davis the week of June 8-13. This year's play will be a "fractured"and comical retelling of

Harlow services scheduled on Jan. 18

ARIZONA - Wanda Emily Harlow of Arizona City, AZ, died Dec. 28, 2014. Born July 6, 1943 in Hico to Hulet Leon "H.L." and Estelle Leoner Harris Sowell, she later graduated from high school in Sweetwater. She worked as a bookkeeper and office manager in the automotive industry alongside her husband for many years in both Texas and Arizona - she and her husband Herb Harlow were well known when their car dealership in Van Horn was an regular source for vehicles for many in the Big Bend and Far West Texas.
