Fourth of July folks on very best behavior

Both law enforcement and the volunteer fire and emergency services report a smooth and relatively quiet Fourth of July. "All in all, folks were on their very best behavior," said a spokesperson from the Jeff Davis County Sheriff's Department. Neither the Department of Public Safety nor the county's sheriff's department handled many cases. One accident involving a pedestrian that occurred in Fort Davis late at night is being investigated, but there was no report released on how the accident happened. Otherwise, there was little to keep sirens going around here despite the huge crowds in town all weekend. Jeff Davis County Peace Justice Mary Ann Luedecke reported little activity coming through her office early in the week, the time when citations would have hit the courthouse.

Dances were successful, the fireworks display continues to be a giant attraction, the parade route was lined with visitors and local residents and was one of the biggest in memory. All booths reported brisk sales - especially the food booths, which were overwhelmed with numbers.
