Valentine journalist retires in El Paso

EL PASO - Longtime journalist and Valentine native Raul Renteria has announced his retirement after 39 years at the El Paso Times and a total of 43 years as a reporter. A graduate of Valentine High School in the 1960s, he first worked for the newspaper in Clovis, NM, starting there in 1976.

Cinderella on stage here on Saturday with 40 in musical

FORT DAVIS - A pumpkin coach, Prince Charming, a glass slipper and a dream come true are woven together by the magic of a Fairy Godmother this Saturday when the Missoula Children's Theatre and more than 40 children present an original musical adaptation of Cinderella. Cinderella will be played by Emmy Francell, and Hannah Machado and Sarah Machado will play her two stepsisters Lovely and Beauty.

Wet/dry election push to start over after petition glitch

Confusion and miscommunication have sent a wet/dry election petition drive back to the drawing board. The petition, which was well over half way filled with names, was ruled dead this week when Jeff Davis County Clerk Jennifer Wright received only part of the petition. "By law, I have no choice," Wright explained. "I have to receive all of the petition pages at one time or the petition is not valid."

Fort Davis volunteers help Marfa neighbors as 12 apartments destroyed by fire Tuesday

"I lost everything," Angel Molinar said Tuesday afternoon as she watched the Marfa Villa Apartments go up in flames. No injuries were reported, but 39 residents, including 23 children and 16 adults were displaced. Sirens were heard in town about 4:30pm as volunteer fire departments from Marfa and Fort Davis rushed to the low-income apartment complex on Golf Course Road east of town.

Workmen put the finishing touches

Workmen put the finishing touches on the new cover over the big dance slab behind The Union in Fort Davis. Lighting is being installed this week and work on the Audrey and Tyrone Kelly Outdoor Theatre continues prior to the Fourth of July celebration

The Marfa Villa Apartments

The Marfa Villa Apartments were fully engaged inside and out when Fort Davis crews got on the scene Tuesday afternoon. A total of 39 residents lost almost everything they owned. Relief funds are being set up to help the victims.
