Fort Davis dominates academic meet

FORT DAVIS - Fort Davis dominated the high school spring academic meet on Tuesday, winning the team title with 515 points. Balmorhea and Big Bend came in second and third, respectively, with 317 and 127 points.

Suspect sought in shooting death of Davis Mountains Resort resident

JEFF DAVIS COUNTY - Lawmen in three states are looking for an 18-year-old man accused of shooting his father in the face while he slept last Thursday in his Davis Mountains Resort home. Harlin Anson Pierce, who just turned 18 on March 4, is being sought in New Mexico and Colorado after fleeing the DMR during the night last week.

The freeze brand

The freeze brand on the hip of Locke Ann McIvor's steer says it all - her hard work paid off with a second place finish at one of the biggest stock shows in the world, the Houston Livestock Show and Sale - that latter part being where that brand will take McIvor this week - in front of the buyers at the big auction of animals where millions are bid for the FFA and 4H animal projects of Texas students.

Mountain Trail Writers here April 24-25

FORT DAVIS – Writers from across the state will gather for the 24th annual Writing Round-Up Spring Retreat in Alpine and Fort Davis on April 24-25. MARFA - It was the old "hidethe-  dope-under-a-bunch-of-goats" trick, but Border Patrol agents from  the Big Bend Sector's Marfa Station were not about to let the Dumas man  driving the pickup get their . . . well, you know.

Pretty good form

Pretty good form, but that dress is going to be a problem on the base paths . . . 1880s baseball is being played this week at Fort Davis National Historic Site during the first of two weeks of spring break across most of Texas.
