Parade, bonfire Oct. 1 for homecoming here

FORT DAVIS - The Fort Davis Homecoming Parade will be at 7 pm, Oct. 1 beginning at St. Joseph's Catholic Church and ending at the Jeff Davis County Park. The homecoming bonfire will follow.

Last Call! for 2008 prices at landfill site in Fort Davis

JEFF DAVIS COUNTY - Time is quickly running out to take advantage of 2008 prices at the landfill site in Fort Davis. On Oct. 1, almost all the rates for the county facility will go up. On page two of this edition is a complete list of all current prices and the new charges that will be effective after the first of October.

Revival begins at Baptist church Oct. 2

FORT DAVIS – First Baptist Church of Fort Davis will be hosting revival services Oct. 2-4. Services will start on Friday at 6 pm to allow time for folks to attend and still make it to the homecoming football game. On Saturday the service will be at 7 pm, and the final service will be 11 am on Sunday followed by a potluck fellowship meal.

Although threatening, skies hold off for 8th Shakespeare benefit

FORT DAVIS - The skies were overcast but the weather cooperated for the eighth annual Midsummer Night's Dream Garden Party which took place Sep. 20. The free program was sponsored by the Friends of the Jeff Davis County Libraries and coordinated by Board member Susan Pittman.

Receiving station rates going up for first time in seven years on Oct. 1

JEFF DAVIS COIUNTY - Fees have remained the same for disposing of trash at the county's Receiving Station in Fort Davis for seven years. On Monday, however, commissioners voted unanimously to edge up the prices at the Receiving Station so that the county does suffers fewer losses for upkeep and expenses at the landfill site.

A dozen Central Americans injured when smuggler misses curve at 505

JEFF DAVIS COUNTY - It was much like those clown cars that pull into the center of the rodeo arena, but this time the 12 to 13 occupants of a smuggler's vehicle came tumbling out into the rocky pasture between Fort Davis and Valentine.

Like deperados waiting for a train . . . a 1920s photo of the train station at Valentine. We're convinced that's Bill Miller of Valentine at the back of the line of desperados lined up in this old vintage Jeff Davis County photo. The rail depot was a center of activity once upon a time.

Jury doesn't need much time to give life without parole

FORT DAVIS - It took a Jeff Davis County jury only about two hours to find Andres Alvarado of Fort Davis guilty of repeated sexual assault of a minor last Thursday and sentence him to life in prison without chance for parole.

JEFF DAVIS COUNTY - Emergency Medical Technicians are a crucial link in the healthcare system. As an EMT residents will become a part of a very special team of medical professionals who are needed and appreciated in their community. Right now the Fort Davis and Jeff Davis County community has a great need for EMTs.
