Aggie Sanchez, 93, died in El Paso Jan. 23

Agapita "Aggie" S. Sanchez, 93, died in El paso Jan. 23, 2016. Aggie, as she was known, was born in Valentine Dec. 25, 1922, to Miguel and Ysidora Sanchez. She married Cruz Sanchez. Aug. 10, 1941 in Valentine. She rovided great support to all her family, was known for ther warm hospitality and huge, home cooked meals. She was lifelong resident of Valentine, where she worked 20 years running a cafe and the rest of her years as a homemaker. She was an active mamber of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Her interests in Cluded family, attending her house plants, sewing and reading. Much of her time and energy was devoted to taking care of family.

Billy Faier

Longtime West Texas resident and five-string banjo legend Billy Faier succumbed to long cancer Jan. 29, 2016. He was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1930 before spending the next few decades wandering the county with his banjo from Woodstock, New York to San Francisco, California- with a brief stint in Mexico-before spending the final years of his life in Marathon. He come to age on East 5th and Avenue D in New York City´s Lower East Side, which be came home to the burgeoning urban folk music scene in the 1940´s playing banjo and learning the ropes among the musicians, poets, and painters that made the scene, incluiding legendary Beat poet Bob Kaufman.

Richard James Bain

Former Big Bend education administrator Richard James Bain Sr. of San Angelo and formerly of Alpine died Jan. 28, 2016. Born Nov. 25, 1936, his greatest passions were serving Jesus and oving his family. He graduated second in his class at Barksdale in 1955 and received his bachelor´s and M. Ed from Sul Ross State University, where he graduated with honors. After obtaining his E.D.D. (doctorate) fron the University of Houston, he worked with the Texas Education, he worked wit the Texas Education Agency, then served as Dean of Education at SRSU for many years. He the served as assistant superintendent and superintendent of schools at Monahans before moving on to Andrews as assistant superintendent. Richard and his wife Pat moved to San Angelo to enjoy their retirement but both soon found themserves teaching in the Education Department at Angelo State University.

Big Bend cowboy Ben Morales dies at 79

MARFA -Benjamin G. Morales of Marfa died Jan. 20, 2016, surrounded by his 10ving family. He was 79 years old. Born in Ruidosa, Texas, Feb. 1, 1936, he was the son of Luis and Josefa Morales. He worked as a foreman for the Hester Brite Ranch. He was always seen in neatly pressed jeans, cowboy boots and a cowboy hat. In the midst of his 54 years of work, he was given the honor of being inducted into the Cowboy Hall of Fame. Though a strong man and rugged ranch hand, he loved the Lord and was a member of First Baptist Church Marfa.

Elvira Webster dies in Temple Jan. 21

FORT DAVIS - Matilda Elvira Webster, 91 of Fort Davis, Texas, died at Arbor House in Temple Jan. 21, 2016. Rosary service will be at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fort Davis Jan. 26. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Jan. 27 at St. Joseph's and graveside service will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Alpine Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

FORT DAVIS and ALPINE - Bruce Grove Lippincott died peacefully Jan. 17,2016. He was born in Philadelphia, Penn., March 29,1924. He graduated from Cornell University in 1948.

Services today in Alpine for Margaret Rojo

ALPINE - Margaret Hartnett Rojo died Jan. 16. 2016, at the age of 87. She was born on Feb. 22, 1928, in Marfa to Beatrice Dutchover Hartnett and William Harnett. Visitation and Rosary was Jan. 20 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Mass of Christian Burial is st 10 a.m. today.

Virgil Baldwin dies Monday at hospital

FORT STOCKTON - Valentine native Virgil Baldwin died Jan. 18, 2016 in a Fort Stockton medical facility. Borrn to Minnie and Dennie Baldwin April 11, 1946, he was a 1965 graduate of Valentine High School. He served 13 years in the U.S. Navy including tours in Viet Nam. While in the service he became an underwater welder at a time when there were very few with those skills worldwide.

Ida Carrasco, 87 buried in Friona

FRIONA - Ida G. Carrasco, 87 of Friona, died Jan.9, 2016, in Friona. Funeral Service was Jan. 12 at 6th Street Church of Christ with Rev. Jeff Proctor, officiating. Burial followed in Friona Cemetery. Arrangements by Blackwell-MuHins Funeral Home of Friona. Mrs. Carrasco was born on Oct. 8, 1928, in Candelaria to Porfirio and Julia (Licon) Granado. She was raised in Fort Davis where she met and married Joaquin Carrasco on July 4, 1953. They moved the family to Friona in I 970. She was a very dedicated mother and friend to many. Proverbs 31 :25- 31 exemplified her. She blessed them all with her wonderful cooking and baking but the most special blessing was sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior. She was a member of the 6th Street Church of Christ. Other hobbies included sewing, making blankets and gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband, three children, two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
