Horace E. "Mac" Brevard

FORT DAVIS - Horace E. "Mac" Brevard, Jr., a longtime property owner and resident of the Davis Mountains Resort, died April 8, 2015. He was born in Gilmer June 3, 1922, and grew up in East Texas, McAllen and Fort Worth before his family settled in Houston. A graduate of Lamar High School and Rice University, he served in the U.S. Army as an artillery officer in the 41st Infantry Division in WWII. He met his wife, Georgia Marie Wert, while recuperating from serious wounds received in combat. They were married from Aug. 11, 1946, until her death on Oct. 14, 2012. He is survived by their children, Laurence, Richard, Theresa and James, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be May 2 at 11 am at the Davis Mountains Community Church. As he served as an EMT in the DMR Volunteer Fire Department for 16 years, donations to Jeff Davis County Mountain Medics would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.

William (Bill) G. Reay

FORT STOCKTON – William (Bill) G. Reay, 72 of Fort Davis, died in Fort Stockton April 16, 2015. He was born on Jan. 1, 1943, to George and Winifred Reay in Toronto, Canada. He served the US military in the Air Force. Mr. Reay attended the University of Arizona where he met his wife Linda and received a bachelor of science degree in micro-paleontology. He completed all course work towards his Master's degree at the University of Southern California before being transferred to Indonesia by Unocal, the company he worked with for 30 years. He and Linda retired to Fort Davis in 1999 where he was active in a number of organizations including the Fort Davis Chamber of Commerce, having served as a director for several years. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda Reay of Fort Davis; nephews Michael R. Smith and Robert K. Elliot; nieces Suzanne L. Soto, Janell D. Smiley and Jennifer L. Smedshammer, 13 great nephews and

Don Looney

A prominent Fort Worth citizen and legendary football player with numerous ties to Jeff Davis and Brewster counties, died April 5, 2015, at home at the age of 98. Services for Don Looney are at 3:30 today in Fort Worth.
Looney will be entombed in Greenwood Mausoleum, as it was always his wish to play cards again with his old and dear friend Ralph Lowe. As president of Fort Worth and Midland oilman Lowe's company, Looney was in Jeff Davis County regularly at the Lowe's ranch south of Kent, now known as the JDC Ranch. In addition, his son Joe Don Looney - who like his dad played professional football in the NFL - built a home south of Alpine where he  lived until his death in a motorcycle accident in Brewster County in 1988. Pierce services March 28 at Midland funeral home

FORT DAVIS - Services were March 28 at Ellis Funeral Home in Midland for Anton Grey Pierce, 56 of Fort Davis, who died March 19, 2015, at his home. He was born Oct. 30, 1958, in San Angelo. He was graduatged from Thoms Jefferson High School in San Antonio and attended Trinity University. He married Susan Pratt in 1996. A musician, he was working in music while living in Santa Fe, NM, for many years. He led the choir at the Oshrohm in Santa Fe. He was in the process of moving to Fort Davis from Santa Fe during March. He was preceded in death by a brother, Victor Pierce;his mother, Jacque Pierce; and his father, Miles Pierce. He is survived by a son, Harlin Anson Pierce of Santa Fe, NM; a brother, Julian Pierce of Fort Davis; and sister-in-law, Jan Pierce of Fort Davis. The private family services were directed by Jeff Darr. The family requests that memorials be made to charities of choice in lieu of flowers. Ellis Funeral Home of Midland was in charge of the services.

Elaine Bell dies at Odessa facility

JEFF DAVIS COUNTY - Services are pending for longtime Jeff Davis County resident Elaine Bell, who died March 25, 2015, in a nursing facility in Odessa. For many years she was a coowner of Davis Mountains Realty in Fort Davis. She was married to the late Jack Bell, who served as Jeff Davis County constable before his death in the 1990s.
