JEFF DAVIS COUNTY - Dan Painter, who has served for many years as Jeff Davis County's auditor, died at the age of 65 in El Paso Jan. 29, 2015. A Certified Public Accountant, Painter's El Paso firm served as auditor
for Jeff Davis County as well as Presidio County and the City of Presidio. A memorial service was the morning of Jan. 31 at Eastwood Church of Christ in El Paso. Arrangements were by  Funeraria Del Angel Martin East in El
Paso. The Painter firm will continue as auditor for Jeff Davis County in 2015, a contract having been entered into between the two last fall.

Kenneth Rushe Wink

MARATHON - Kenneth Rushe Wink, 72 of Fluvanna and Marathon, died in Snyder Jan. 19, 2015. Funeral services for Mr. Wink will be today at Calvary Baptist Church at 2 pm with Reverend Larry McAden officiating. Burial will follow at Fluvanna Cemetery. Following the burial, the family will recieve family and friends at the Fluvanna Community Center. Services are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home of Snyder. He was bornFeb. 18, 1942, to Leslie Edwin and Catherine Erma Tinkler Wink in San Angelo. He graduated from Robert Lee High School in 1960. After graduating from Texas Tech with a degree in vocational agriculture education, he married Betty J. Pylant of Fluvanna on July 31, 1965. In 1964, he began long career of teaching vocational agriculture...where he mentored many students over the years to which he referred to as his own kids. Therefore, Mr. Wink is also survived by a large extended family.

Billye Lee Elder

VALENTINE - Billye Lee Elder of El Paso and Valentine died at her home in Valentine Jan. 9, 2015, in the very house where she was born. She was 95. The oldest daughter of Howard Laben Bell of Valentine and Annie Laura Lee of Odessa, she was born on April 10, 1919, and raised in Valentine. Her dad was the only Jeff Davis County Judge to ever serve from Valentine. She graduated with a bachelor's degree of science in physical education from Mary Hardin Baylor College, Belton in 1940. Upon graduation she began teaching physical education in the Valentine public schools before marrying Hal Elder from Bogota in 1942. After moving to El Paso, she spent 38 years with the El Paso Independent School District as a physical education teacher and coach, which also included special education for students in need. She was awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award in May 1981. She loved to travel, meet new

Ellen Cross

MARFA - Ellen Cross, 85 and a longtime former Marfa resident and educator, died Jan.1, 2015, in Midland. Funeral services are 2 pm, Jan. 9 at the First United Methodist Church in Marfa. She was born June 16, 1929, in Ennis. She graduated from Big Spring High School when she was 16 years old and continued her education with her Bachelor's degree in 1950 at North Texas State College. She finished her Master's degree at Sul Ross State University in Alpine in 1980. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gama. She married the love of her life, George Cross, in 1951, and helped him establish Cross Pharmacy in Marfa. She made a beautiful home for them and their four children: Carol Cross, Scott Cross, Vie Cross and Will Cross. She played the organ for church services, weddings and funerals for over 40 years. She was a member and officer of United Methodist Women, Delta Kappa Gamma, Century Culture Club, and Western District of Texas Federation of Women's Clubs.

Irby Hearn Wright

ALPINE – Irby Hearn Wright 83, a Korean Was veteran, died Dec. 30, 2014, after a long fight with cancer. He is survived by his wife Joyce Wright of 57 years of Alpine, five daughters, one son, four sons-in-law, 10 grandchildren, four great- grandchildren, his mother, three sisters, one brother, and several nephews and nieces, He enjoyed working in the space program and with new military aircraft from 1960 - 1996. No funeral is planned. Memorials will be in the spring in Fort Worth and Tennessee.

Ann Fitzgerald

Ann Fitzgerald, 70, died Dec. 14, 2014, in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. A former resident of Fort Davis and Marfa, she was born Jan. 1, 1944, in San Angelo to Bob and Mildred Weston. She married her husband John Fitzgerald Aug. 1, 1964, in Carlsbad, NM. She graduated from Van Horn High School in 1962 and earned her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1971. She was a dedicated teacher for over 30 years including teaching at Alpine, Fort Davis and Marfa. Her husband was a former president of Fort Davis State Bank when she taught here. The Fitzgeralds moved to Lake Havasu City five years ago, coming from Marfa where they lived for 31 years. She was a loving wife for 50 years and beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, John S. Fitzgerald of Lake

Lewis Bly Gordon

ALPINE - Lewis Bly Gordon, 77 and a lifetime resident of Alpine, died at his residence Dec. 1, 2014. Known by many in the Big Bend because of his skills in the kitchen, Gordon was the kind of cook who could command crowds of lunch and dinner diners whether at his own restaurants or at other locations where he worked over the years. Rosary service will be at 7 p.m., Dec. 7 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Alpine. Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m., Dec. 8, at Our Lady of Peace and military graveside service will follow at the chapel at Holy Angels Cemetery. Alpine Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Gordon was born in Alpine on April 1, 1937. He was a US Army veteran. He was a self- employed chef. He is survived by daughters Rita Gordon and Jessica Gordon of Alpine, Lorina “Sugar” Klingemann of San Angelo, Donna L. Gordon of Houston, Lupe Rodriguez of Carlsbad, NM, Ramona L. Moore of San Antonio; sons Rodolfo “Rudy” Gordon of Alpine and Michael H.
