Garnsey finishes 12th in the state at cross country meet on Saturday

ROUND ROCK - Valentine High School senior Latham Garnsey finished an outstanding high school cross country career with a 12th place finish at the 2014 State Cross Country Meet in Round Rock Nov. 8. His time was an 18:16.75 on a very challenging course. There were 146 Class A runners who participated in the event. This was Garnsey's first trip to the state meet after having qualified to regional competition all four years in high school.

Indian junior high finishes undefeated at 8-0

FORT DAVIS - Wins over undefeated Garden City and 7-1 Marfa wrapped up the Fort Davis Indian junior high football season - the Indians finishing undefeated on the season at 8-0. The Indians, who just two years ago didn't scratch the win column, put together stout wins over a number of the Division II teams before taking out district opponents Rankin, Garden City and Marfa

Two Fort Davis soccer teams win championships

BIG BEND - Two Fort Davis teams won two of the three soccer tournaments this past weekend as the Big Bend Youth Soccer Association capped off its two month season this past weekend with tournament play. A total of 32 teams composed of over 300 players from Alpine, Fort Davis Marathon and Marfa competed in three divisions: U/8, U/10, and U/14.

Indians bop Wink again, take over first place

FORT DAVIS - It hasn't happened in a long time - too long. On Saturday the Fort Davis Indians made it two in a row over what has been one of the top Class AA volleyball programs in West Texas. It took the Indians five games to get it done - just like in Wink earlier in the season, but when all was said and done Fort Davis had taken out the Wildcats and grabbed sole possession of first place in the district volleyball race.

Barrel-racing mules

Barrel-racing mules were another of the big sttractions last week during the Mule Daze celebration in Fort Davis. The event was much larger and more well-run this year with mules and riders coming from several surrounding states.
