Sul Ross clears out entire grid coaching staff

BIG BEND - Sul Ross State University has fired football Coach John Tyree and all of his assistant football coaches. A complete list of those coaches has not been released. Bobby Mesker, who has been the assistant athletics director and the baseball coach of the Lobos, will assume the duties of athletic director on an interim basis. Tyree and his staff have come under fire this season from some SRSU fans because of the language used against players on the sidelines during the football season, one that did not go particularly well for the Lobos.

Indians rout Ira 78-40, prepare for Valley next in Garden City

Editor's Note: This is the 12th in a series on the 2003 Fort Davis Indians, who played in the state championship game, narrowly losing to Strawn in the final seconds. As this is the 10-year anniversary of that state finalist year, this series is dedicated to those players and their great season.
KERMIT - Fort Davis got away for this barely-winning business and walked all over Ira this week, beating the Bulldogs 78-40 to set up a match with Valley at Gardey City next week - the winner of that one headed for the state championship. It was the usual cast of characters for the Indians - John Liddell, Trini Granado, Cody Stewart, David Lara, Tim Salcido on offense and the stout defensive play of Mitch Aufdengarten, George Valerio, Nick Granado, Jaime Garcia, Forrest McLain, Liddell, Trini Granado, Joseph Granado and Lara.

Indians open playoff run with 64-33 win over Grady; Ira next

McCAMEY - It was the tale of two halves for the Fort Davis Indians, who let Grady's Wildcats take leads of 14-6 after one and 27-20 at the half before finally getting their game faces on in time to win the playoff opener. Perhaps the poor early play could be attributed to Coach Gerry Gartrell's loss of his mother the night before in East Texas, but whatever the reason, the Indians let Trent May and Andrew Villa throw TD after TD to the 6'5" Brent Madison and the 6'3" Jason Pribyla.

Plains ends turnaround season for Indians

CRANE - It was over in three, but the Fort Davis Indians made it clear to the volleyball world that they are back and are going to be a team to reckon with in coming years. Plains took the second round match from the Indians by scores of 25-15, 25-18 and 25-20, and all three were hard-fought for the Cowgirls, who were ranked fifth in the state. By the by, Plains did not survive the next round, getting knocked out in four games by Sterling City, coached by Denise Richards, the former Fort Davis coach from several years ago.

Rankin keeps Indians winless on the year

RANKIN - After holding one of the top 10 teams in the state to just eight points in the first quarter, the wheels came off and Rankin woke up to down Fort Davis 46-0 to give the Indians their eighth loss of the season.
