Abigail Aranda Salgado

MARFA - Abigail Aranda Salgado, 87 of Marfa and formerly of Presidio, died Oct. 19, 2014, at her home in Marfa. Mamá, as everyone called her, was born June 8, 1927, to Don Manuel and Juliana Garcia Aranda in Imperial. She was raised in La Mula, Chihuahua, Mexico, where she met and later married her husband of 69 years, Tomas Salgado on June 2, 1945. The couple and their three old est daughters moved to Presidio in 1954 where they lived for many years and raised their 10 children. Mama was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She raised 10 children in a caring and nurturing home. She was a wonderful cook and seamstress. She was a lifelong Catholic. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Tomas Salgado of Marfa; their children, Enedina Granado and husb and Raymundo of El Paso, Olivia Columbus and husband Roger of San Angelo, Alma Cabezuela and husband Joe of Marfa, Hector and wife Liliana of Midland, Rosario Halpern and husband Robert of Marfa, Tomas Jr and wife Maria de Jesus of Marfa, daughter Teresa Salgado Juarez of Marfa, Juan and wife Rebecca of San Angelo, Mario and wife Lucila, of San Angelo, and Maribel Bañuelos and husband Adalberto of El Paso. Two sisters survive her, Aurora Aranda of Presidio, and Ester and her husband Maurilio Lujan of Odessa; her brothers Alfonso and Gloria Estela Aranda of Presidio, and Adolfo and Gloria Aranda of La Mula and Midland; and a sister-in-law, Amparo Aranda of Midland; also 24 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one greatgreat- grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; a baby son, Jesus Manuel; a sister, Ester Aranda; and her brothers, Alessio, Abelardo, Arturo and Hector "Beto" Aranda. Visitation was Oct. 21 at St.  Mary's Catholic Church in Marfa, followed by the Rosary. Funeral Mass was Oct. 22 at the church with burial in Merced Cemetery. Fr. Pablo Matta of El Paso officiated. Alpine Memorial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
