Fort Davis's longtime phone man dies at 60

ALPINE - Longtime Southwestern Bell employee Carl Wayne Lewis died at home after a lengthy illness April 14, 2015. He was 60 years old and retired from Southwestern Bell/AT&T after 33 years of service. He served as the "phone man" for Fort Davis and the surrounding area for many years and was well known especially in Fort Davis where he worked in most of the homes and businesses here over the years. He relocated to Alpine as a result of his job with Southwestern Bell early on in his career and made the Big Bend area his home for many years. Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his father, Carl D. Lewis, and his only brother, Blake Lewis. He is survived by his mother, Millie Lewis of Cisco, his sister Debi McLaurin and husband Monte and nieces Emily and Katy of Kingsport, TN, and sister Cristy Johnston and husband Lance and nieces Hunter, Landry and Ainselty of Parker, CO. He also is survived by his wife, Carole Causey and stepdaughter Libby Newman and husband Dave and grandsons Cayden and Easton all of Alpine. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a favorite charity. Plans for a memorial gathering are pending and will be announced at a later date.
