Services this afternoon at 3 for former Jeff Davis Sheriff Wid McCutcheon

FORT DAVIS - Former Jeff Davis County Sheriff William Willis (Wid) McCutcheon IV, 75 of Fort Davis, died at his home Sep. 27, 2013. Services are today at 3 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery in Fort Davis with . Alpine Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born in Roswell, NM, March 8, 1938, the son of W.W. and Mallie Rhodes McCutcheon III. He was a 1957 graduate of Fort Davis High School and attended Trinity University and Sul Ross State University. He was a US Army veteran who served with the 101st Airborne and was in Vietnam in the early years of involvement there. He had worked as a rancher and heavy equipment operator and served for 12 years as sheriff of Jeff Davis County in the 1970s and 1980s. In addition, he was certified as the tax collector/assessor. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Betty Lewis McCutcheon. He is survived by his wife Daisy L. McCutcheon of Fort Davis, daughters Adrian McCutcheon Walker (Mark) of Lockhart, Margaret McCutcheon Gladden (Dale) of Danville, IN, son W.W. McCutcheon V (Bilinda) of Shallowater,stepdaughter Holly Alexander (Bobby) of Mart; stepson Dennis Pierce (Paulette) of Tomball; his sister Sallie McCutcheon of Phoenix, AZ, five grandchildren, Will McCutcheon and Wes McCutcheon, both of Shallowater, Jessica Bunn Grove of Queen Creek, Ariz., Katie Lynn Alexander and Ryan Alexander, both of Mart, and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by special friends Sylvestra Salcido, Mary Lara, Sylvestra Molinar, Ginger Fisher McGough and many more. Pallbearers are George Grubb, Fred Parrott, Dickie Harnett, Pete Vasquez, Charlie Oates, Ron Truax, Mac Sproul and Stewart Billingsley. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Greenlee, Joey Gordon, Dave Duncan, Leroy Baeza, Rusty Crawford, Jimmy Martinez and all his old Fort Davis High School buddies. He was a member of many organizations he supported over the years. His family has suggested a lasting memorial to him could be made to the Fort Davis Chamber of Commerce at Box 378, Fort Davis, the Fort Davis Baptist Church at Box 809, Fort Davis or another organization of choice.
