Linda Duncum dies in Fort Davis April 30

ALPINE – Linda Marie Duncum, 54, of Alpine, died in Fort Davis April 30, 2014 with her daughter Christy and close friend Vicki Fowler by her side. Mrs. Duncum was born June 21, 1959, in Shelton, Conn., to Frank and Maria Hogan. She worked as an ER nurse for the hospital in Alpine and also helped out as a Paramedic for Presidio, Marfa and Fort Davis Emergency Medical Services. Over the past 13 years she would serve hospitals all over the Permian Basin including a short stent with CareStar and working as a school nurse for the Alpine ISD. She loved working with the children and staff at Alpine ISD, but when her husband Joe died in May of 2009, she realized how much she missed working in the ER, so the following year she went back to work at Pecos County Memorial Hospital in Fort Stockton. She continued working even after her diagnosis of cancer until she was finally forced to retire in 2013. She was an Army Texas National Guard veteran. She is survived by her daughter, Christy Ann Sanchez of Alpine, sister Karen Kent of Chapel Hill, NC, brothers Jim Hogan of Winston-Salem, NC, Tim Hogan of Rocky Mount, NC; grandchildren Elaina, Ben and Olivia Sanchez nieces April Hogan, Abby and Gracie Kent and nephews Patrick Hogan and John Tyler Kent. She also leaves behind many friends as well as “adopted” brother and sisters, many adopted children and grandchildren, who will always affectionately remember her as “Mom”. A memorial service has been scheduled for May 17 at 4 p.m. at the First Baptist Church at 203 N 4th St. in Alpine.
