Services are Saturday for Glenda Spriggs, 68

MARFA - A Celebration of Life for Glenda F. Spriggs of Marfa is at 2 p.m., Sep. 20 at the ranch six miles south of Marfa. She died Sep. 14, 2014. She was born Jan. 20, 1946, in Shuttuck, Okla., to Oren M. Cooley Sr. “Jimmy” and Lila A. Cooley. She grew up on ranches in Arnett, Okla., Cottonwood Falls, Kansas and Pampa. Her love of horses and livestock was evident in every aspect of her life. When she was 10, she would ride her favorite steer, Pete, in local parades. She loved traveling, hunting arrowheads, jewelry, horses and ranching. She met the love of her life, James M. Spriggs, in 1963 in Texline. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sep. 8, 2014. Glenda and James moved to Alpine in 1971. She worked at the Alpine High School and attended Sul Ross State University. She worked as a United Parcel Service driver for 15 years and has been a rancher and homemaker outside of Marfa for 20 years. She is survived by her husband James M. Spriggs of Marfa; daughter Debra L. Spriggs of Alpine; three brothers: Oren M. Cooley and wife June of Amarillo, Buckley “Buck” A. Cooley and wife Mary of Jonestown, Colo., Danny R. Cooley and wife Kae of Hartley; four nephews: Bobby and Randy Cooley of Fort Collins, Colo., Keenan and Kyle Cooley of Hartley; mother-in-law Cleona Spriggs of Alpine; brother-in-law Gary L. Spriggs and wife Susan and daughter Holly of Alpine; extended family and children: Dameon, T.J., Graham and Lindsey of Hudson, New Hampshire. Shea was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy and Lila Cooley, daughter Michelle K. Timmons, grandson Hunter Trey Timmons and nephew Larry Cooley. Services were entrusted to Alpine Memorial Funeral Home.
